What an Initial Legal Consultation Costs — and What You Get for It

Prospective clients frequently ask what the first meeting costs. The answer at Legal Lounge is straightforward: the initial consultation is charged at a fixed, modest fee, quoted to you before the meeting is booked, and credited against your fees if you go on to instruct us on the matter.

Why charge at all? Because a proper consultation is not a sales call. It involves reading your documents beforehand, researching the position where the point is not settled, and giving you an assessment you can act on immediately — even if you never come back. That is legal work, and it is delivered whether or not you instruct us.

What the fee includes: review of the documents you send in advance, the consultation itself, an assessment of your legal position, the realistic options with their cost and time implications, and a recommended next step. Where a short follow-up question arises from the same meeting, we do not charge again for it.

What it does not include: drafting, filing, correspondence with the other side, or attendance at court. Those are separate work, scoped and quoted after the consultation.

How you will know the cost in advance. We tell you the consultation fee when we confirm the appointment. There is no scenario in which you sit down with us not knowing what the meeting costs.

A note on value: the cheapest legal spend in almost every matter is early advice. Contracts reviewed before signature, land searched before payment, and police matters handled in the first 48 hours cost a fraction of the same problems handled later.
